Kathy Trusty
Kathy Trusty is an historian, writer, and Black history educator. She always loved history and became enthusiastic about Black history when she received a grant to document the history of African Americans in Paterson, New Jersey, where she lived before moving to Delaware.
Kathy’s research led to collaboration with the Paterson Museum on the exhibition, “As I was Saying…Reflections of Africans Americans in Paterson. She co-authored the accompanying exhibit booklet. Kathy later collaborated with the museum on an exhibit about Larry Doby, the first Black man to play baseball in the American League. Larry Doby began his career in the American League just five weeks after Jackie Robinson made his debut in the National League. Yet, little is known about Doby. That unknown history drove Kathy to expand her research on the history of Black Americans and share her findings in programs for adults and students.
Kathy has authored three Black history children’s books: Black Inventors: 15 Inventions That Changed The World; The Story of Ella Fitzgerald; and Black History ABCs.
She is the owner of Black History Ed Zone LLC, a company that produces Black history products to facilitate the inclusion of Black history in the classroom. She is also a Black history consultant for ClickView, an Australian company that produces educational videos for K-12 students. In 2021 she wrote the script for the company’s Juneteenth Video which received rave reviews from customers around the world.
Kathy has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Long Island University. She is a member of the Middle States Council For Social Studies.
