The Application Process

  1. Click “Apply” at the top left to see the different applications available.
  1. On the grant you would like to apply for, select the blue “Apply” button in the top right corner of the grant’s box.
  1. Fill in the application.  If you need to stop and return later, use the “Save Application” button at the very bottom. When you are ready to submit, use the blue “Submit Application” button.
  1. Part of the application is uploading your project’s budget using Delaware Humanities’ template.
  1. Remember to carefully review our mission and core concepts as well as grant requirements. If your project does not fit our mission, core concepts, or has expenses that cannot be funded it will be rejected.

What Happens Next?

All applying organizations will be checked for a valid Unique Entity Identifier (UEI). Organizations without a UEI will be immediately rejected. Our Grants and Operations Manager will check over the application for compliance and in Action/Innovation Grants to make sure the organization is a registered nonprofit. If the application passes this step, it will be assigned to our reviewers.

Opportunity Grants are awarded on a rolling basis. You will be notified the month following the one in which you apply, and your period of performance will be the first day of the following month. For example, if you apply in July, your application will be reviewed in August and you will be notified at the end of the month. If approved, your period of performance will start September 1.

For Action/Innovation Grants, after your Letter of Inquiry is submitted and you have met with our Grants and Operations Manager, you will either be invited or not be invited to apply for the Action/Innovation Grant. If invited, after your application is submitted it will be checked for completeness and fundability. If the application is complete and the project is fundable, it will be sent to our External Reviewers. The External Reviewer funding recommendations will be sent to our Program and Grants Committee, who will vote to send these recommendations to the full board. The full board will then vote on the applied for grants, which takes place twice per year at the Spring and Fall board meetings.
