Stories & Histories: Monuments & Markers
Let’s Talk about Monuments & Markers: A DIY Program Toolkit
When controversies about monuments and other markers of history arise, how do we facilitate conversations with members of our community?
“Let’s Talk About Monuments & Markers” is a DIY program toolkit that provides organizations with tools to facilitate discussions with community members on the divisive issue of how history is represented in public spaces.
This toolkit includes background information about monuments and markers, examples of controversies and how communities came to agree on creative solutions to those controversies, and ways participants can engage with markers that they see in Delaware or elsewhere. It also includes a guided activity with a worksheet for hands-on learning in small groups.
Free digital copies are available to organizations.
Funding for this toolkit was provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) as part of the United We Stand: Connecting Through Culture initiative. Any views, findings, conclusions or recommendations expressed in these programs do not necessarily represent those of the NEH or Delaware Humanities.
