Facilitator Program FAQs

What kinds of organizations can apply?
Community organizations, small and large nonprofits, universities, community colleges, government agencies, corporations, and more!

How many people can participate in these community conversations?
Facilitated conversations are best for groups of between 5 and 25. If you are opening the conversation to the general public (rather than convening a group of people), please account for a 50% drop-off of pre-registered individuals due to weather, last minute conflicts, etc.

Who can participate in these conversations?
Facilitated conversations can be hosted for the general public or for a particular group: people at a workplace, place of worship, or a community gathering.

Can I book a Facilitator for a K-12 school class?
Not at this time.

Will Delaware Humanities fund a Facilitator who isn’t listed in the catalog?
Not at this time. If there are community leaders who you’ve identified as potential facilitators, please direct them to Delaware Humanities to apply for the upcoming facilitator training.

Does Delaware Humanities publicize my event?
Delaware Humanities, with your permission, will add the Facilitator event with your organization to our calendar. Your organization is responsible for advertising and generating an audience of at least 5 people. Publicity advice is featured on the next page.

Are there are any limits to the number of presentations my organization can request in a fiscal year?
There is no limit to the number of requests an organization can make in a cycle for unique presentations. Delaware Humanities has a budget for the Facilitator program, and once funds are depleted all future requests will be denied.

Are programs restricted to the counties where the presenters live?
No – presenters may travel to any location in Delaware.

Can I charge a fee?
No. Facilitated conversation events are intended to be free for your community.

Can we collect donations for our organizations at the event?
No – fundraising at Facilitator events is prohibited.

Can we audio record or videotape the program?
No – our Conversation Project leaders create a space for participants to share their personal stories and experiences, and we want participants to be able to fully show up without feeling they should censor themselves. Recording can change interpersonal and group dynamics.

I’m a humanities scholar – how can I become a Facilitator?
