Bent, But Not Broken: A Conference Amplifying the Choral Music of Black Composers

Type: Vision · Award: $15,000 · Year: 2021

A first of its kind four-day music conference amplifying the musical contributions and accomplishments of Black artists across time and genres, featuring the American Spiritual Ensemble, led by conductor Everett McCorvey; EXIGENCE, led by conductor Eugene Rogers; Westminster Choir College Jubilee Singers, led by conductor Vinroy J. Brown, Jr.; the St. Thomas Gospel Choir; and the Choir School of Delaware, with conductor Jason Max Ferdinand.

“The conference is comprised of performances from nationally esteemed choral groups complemented with workshops and interest sessions led by the nation's most knowledgeable scholars of music and history. ‘Bent, But Not Broken’ aims to be the community and artistic summit that will make visible—and audible—the works of Black voices.” – Arreon A.
