The Story of the St. Jones River
Speaker: Kathy Doyle
Suitable for Schools · Grades 9–12
The story of the St. Jones River is the story of most rivers in the world. People settle along the river and the river generously gives to the people until it can give no more. The good news is that people are learning how to give back. This presentation is for anyone who loves the environment, local history, science, and civics. We begin our story with the earliest settlers, the Lenape and Nanticoke, and then travel through time up to today’s citizens of Dover to learn how the river was used throughout history, what kind of shape it is in today, and what we need to do to make it fishable, potable, and swimmable once again.
