Program: Environmental Humanities

Dust off that Secchi disk—it’s time to get hands-on with one of the Nanticoke River’s largest tributaries, Broad Creek! We all have an impact on water quality, which can impair our ability to swim, kayak, or fish in our local waterways. In this program with Nanticoke Watershed Alliance, you’ll learn more about how our actions can improve (or degrade) waterway health. You’ll also become a community scientist for the day as we investigate water quality and use probes, disks, and test kits to measure indicators such as dissolved oxygen, pH, and water clarity, while also discovering more about the EPA-approved Nanticoke Creekwatchers Program.

Delaware Humanities’ Environmental Humanities facilitator, Lisa Dill, will guide attendees through community conversation which may include (but are not limited to) references to poetry, literature, and idea exchange.
