This slide-illustrated lecture explores the life of Louise Crowninshield, the sister of Henry Francis duPont. Raised at Winterthur, she and her brother became well-known collectors and scholars of Americana. While H.F. was forming what would later become Winterthur Museum, Louise was helping to lay the groundwork for what would become America’s historic preservation movement. Her work is recognized as having been of key importance to organizations such as the National Park Service and the Salem Maritime Complex.
